Livehoods Women and Youth Economic Empowerment

This program is linked to women’s and youth participation in decision making processes on all levels family, homestead, village, ward, district levels. With loss of land, natural resources and livestock in all the pastoral districts, as well as increasing drought related to climate change, men are leaving homesteads for work elsewhere. Women are taking on responsibility of children, family and homestead without access to the means of production; they are the most vulnerable at this time of social change.

In this context, PILIDO Women and Gender Team designed and implemented projects and activities to economically empower women through income producing projects on an individual and group level, increase trainings and capacity building for pastoral women, increase women’s solidarity in their self-organized groups, self-confidence, provide them with leadership skills and enhance their art of public speaking to participate in village, ward and district governments.
